Dear HSLDA Members,

After years of pitched defensive battles over increased homeschool regulation, the landscape of New Hampshire's state Legislature is looking significantly better for homeschoolers after November's election. Homeschool-friendly legislators hold a significant advantage in the new political makeup of the New Hampshire Legislature. Historically more receptive to less regulation for homeschoolers, Republicans have nearly 300 seats in the House and 19 in the Senate. HSLDA is keenly aware of the situation and has reached out to a number of stakeholders to discuss what should be done.

Specifically noteworthy for homeschoolers was the election of homeschool father and former CHENH President Jim Parison to the House of Representatives and strong homeschool advocate Jim Forsythe to the Senate. Longtime homeschool advocate and CheNH Board Member David Wheeler was also elected to the governor's executive council. These changes have many wondering what will happen for homeschoolers in the 2011-2012 legislative session.

Join HLSDA Staff Attorney Michael Donnelly along with Representative-elect James Parison, Representative David Bates, HEAC Chairman Abbey Lawrence, HEAC member Michael Compitello, and longtime homeschooling advocate in New Hampshire Michael Faiella for an exclusive legislative panel discussion next week on Thursday December 9, 2010 at 8:30 p.m. Other members of the legislature have been invited to discuss their views about legislation in the upcoming legislative session.
